Aya and Aki Mikage are twins, belonging to a very powerful family. When secretly submitted to a test on their 16th birthday, Aya finds that she has extraordinary power, power that once it shows itself, her family must destroy it. Aya carries the bloodline of Ceres, a tennyou, or celestial being from Japanese myth. Ceres becomes an alternate ego for Aya, coming through in certain stressful situations.

Aya begins to make allies with other celestial maidens, and fall in love with the mysterious Touya. He helps protect Aya from those in her family that look to take advantage of her DNA, and help find Ceres' missing celestial robe, which would allow her to return to heaven.
