World War II is brought to a halt when alien invaders attack and begin destroying the human race. Japan launches mecha fighters to fight the onslaught. In the year 1999, too many pilots are lost, and they are forced to recruit high school students. Hayami is one such pilot, and he finds himself in the 5121st Platoon with Mai Shibamura. He's quite taken with her, but both are too shy to admit their feelings to one another.
